Power source:

Springer A1 requires a stable 12V power supply from the car or a USB C power supply.
It will not work correct with a 5V supply.

Installing software on the device:

When you first run the device it will ask you for the wifi connection. Make sure you have a strong wifi signal, otherwise installation will fail. (sometimes it will ask you to put the installation link twice.

After you connect to a wifi source you have a choice of installing Openpilot or other software.
We recommend the following openpilot forks for most of the vehicles:

Input link:

frogpilot.download

for frogpilot fork

or

release-c3.sunnypilot.ai

for Sunnypilot fork

They both work great with A1.

Note that you will get an alert “device failed to register” if you do not set up a server upload.

Sim card:

A1 has a sim card slot hidden under the plastic plug in the bottom of the device. You can use sim card to get internet on your device.
Press the plug on the right side with your fingernail to uncover the slot.

Screen Safety:

Do not put your device directly on the screen side. (the screen is very delicate). You can put it on something delicate like a cloth, but not directly on the table flat surface.(even a small piece of sand on the table can crack it if put on the table). The Screen is high quality customised OLED, the same one like the one used in C3X.

Flashing stock firmware:

If you feel like you messed around too much with the software you can reflash the device to it’s original state with https://flash.comma.ai/
(USB port 1 is on the side, and 2 is underneath the plastic plug).

SSH into A1:

SSH allows for a remote connection from your PC.
firstly SSH into your device.
On your A1:
Settings -> Network -> Advanced -> Enable SSH

Make sure you have Github ssh keys set up like here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kuG9ElVMhM

Then put your github account name in the “SSH keys” (its case sensitive so put it exactly as you use it on github)

Then in the terminal you have to put:

ssh comma@<IP of your A1>

So for example:
SSH [email protected]

You can find the IP address of your A1 in:
Settings -> Network -> Advanced
